Government to purchase 22 million liters of palm oil for TCB

The government has taken the initiative to purchase 22 million liters of refined palm oil for sale at subsidized prices among the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) family cardholders. The Advisory Council Committee on Economic Procurement approved it on Tuesday (April 22, 2025), a press release said.

It is learned that this oil will be sold at subsidized prices through the local open tender (national) method. The price per liter purchased has been set at 162 taka and 19 paisa. The total cost of purchasing 22 million liters of palm oil will be 356 crore 81 lakh 80 thousand taka.

According to relevant sources, this edible oil will be purchased from Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited. TCB, an organization under the Ministry of Commerce, has a target of purchasing 280 million liters of edible oil in its annual procurement plan for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Of this, contracts for the purchase of 154.19 million liters have been completed. The Ministry of Commerce has taken the initiative to purchase another 22 million liters of refined palm oil as part of the total demand.

An open tender was invited on January 13, following the Public Procurement Rules 2008, to purchase 22 million liters of refined palm oil locally. The Tender Opening Committee opened the tenders received on February 3 and received one tender.

The Tender Evaluation Committee recommended the purchase of a total of 22 million liters of bottled refined palm oil in 2-liter PET bottles, including the 11 million liters proposed in the tender, for a total of 356.81 million liters at a price of 162.19 paisa per liter, including advance income tax, applicable VAT and transportation costs to the TCB warehouse.
