The Oilseeds: World Markets and Trade report, published monthly by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, provides data and analysis on U.S. and global trade, production, consumption, and stocks of oilseeds, meals, and oils. It covers major oilseeds like soybean, rapeseed, sunflower seed, peanut, cottonseed, copra, and palm kernel, along with their derived products.

Key Highlights from Recent Reports (2024-2025):

Global Production (2025/26 Forecast): Projected to reach a record 692 million metric tons, up 2% from 2024/25, driven by soybean production.

Trade: Global oilseed trade is expected to grow 3%, primarily due to soybean exports, offsetting a decline in rapeseed exports.

Meal and Oil Production: Oilseed meal production is forecast to increase 3% to 400 million tons, led by soybean crush in China, the U.S., Brazil, and Argentina. Vegetable oil production is also projected to rise 3%.

Stocks: Global oilseed ending stocks are expected to grow by nearly 2 million tons to 143 million tons.

Price Trends: The FAO’s Monthly Price Update (March 2025) notes that oilseed and oilmeal price indices fluctuated narrowly, remaining below last year’s levels, while vegetable oil prices declined for the second consecutive month in January 2025.

Sunflower Oil Market: Record crops and rising competition have led to falling prices, with Argentina, Russia, and Ukraine as key players. Demand is softening in the EU.

U.S. Exports: Robust U.S. soybean meal exports have offset slower South American sales.
