Amid the ongoing crisis in the market across the country, the government has announced an increase in the price of soybean oil. The price of bottled and open soybean oil has been increased by Tk 8 per liter.
Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin gave this information at the Secretariat after a meeting with traders on the price of edible oil last Monday (December 9, 2024).
The Commerce Advisor said that bottled soybean oil has been increased by Tk 8 per liter to 175 taka. On the other hand, open soybean oil has been increased by Tk 8 per liter to 157 taka.
He also said that there has been a supply crisis due to the increase in prices in the international market. As a result, the price of edible oil has increased in the country. Sheikh Bashiruddin said that traders are hoarding, and that activity has also been noticed.
Meanwhile, bottled soybean oil has not been available anywhere in the capital's market since before the government increased the price. It has almost disappeared. And even if it is available, the price is being kept high with conditions. There is no one to two-liter bottled soybean oil of various brands. This has put the common people in trouble.
Retail and wholesale traders said that edible oil refining companies have not been supplying bottled soybean oil for more than a week. Of these, even if one or two companies do, it is much less compared to the demand.
